The Supreme Court has expressed frustration over repeated delays in convicted lawyer Paul Paraka’s bail application.

Justice Peter Toliken, speaking for a three-man bench, told Paraka: “We are not happy about how this matter is dragging on… this is the third adjournment before us.”
The case was set for hearing yesterday but adjourned again after the court and prosecutors confirmed they did not have Paraka’s latest affidavits.
Paraka, representing himself with help from his daughter, apologised and partly blamed the Registry, saying he had filed the documents last Friday. The matter has been rescheduled to September 9.
Paraka is seeking bail on medical grounds while appealing his 20-year sentence for misappropriating K162 million in public funds. His previous appeal against conviction was dismissed last October.
His co-accused, former Finance deputy secretary Jacob Yafai, was recently convicted over unlawful payments of K41.8 million to Paraka, while other related cases remain pending.
